Overview

Duration: 40–50 minutes
Season: Advent (also works in late November catechesis)

Learning goals

  • Name the four weeks of Advent
  • Explain that Advent is a time of hope and preparation for Christmas
  • Connect the wreath candles to prayer at home

Supplies (per child)

  • Printed wreath template on card stock
  • Purple and pink crayons or paper strips
  • Scissors, glue stick
  • Flame shapes (yellow paper) or draw with marker

Steps

  1. Color three candles purple and one pink (Gaudete Sunday).
  2. Cut out wreath and candle pieces; glue to a paper plate base if desired.
  3. Each week, “light” one flame (attach or flip up) during opening prayer.

Gospel connection

Read Luke 1:26–38 or the Sunday Gospel for Advent I–IV depending on your calendar.

Take-home

Send a one-page parent note: how to pray one decade of the Rosary or a simple Advent prayer around the wreath.
